intolerable cruelty – 5 stars
i’m on a hell of a run, movie-wise. lost in translation, kill bill, and now this… it’s all too good to be true.
it seemed like everyone who would have wanted to see this with me saw it before i did, and after running out of options i just went out and saw it alone last night (at the los feliz 3, which i discovered has 7.50 admission and 4.50 matinees! another winning revelation; i will be back there).
i was unimpressed by the acclaim from everyone i had asked for a verdict from though, and i was getting a little scared that my beloved coens might let me down this time. the general feeling was, ‘pretty good, but obviously a mainstream attempt from them’, which isn’t exactly glowing.
well i’m here to tell anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to forget all that and go see it. it IS great. it IS hilarious. it IS full of the well-written and complex dialogue that makes me sit up and grin with delight, which i’ve come to expect from these guys. and george clooney plays a great character. frankly, i loved it, recommend it, will loan it to you when i get the DVD, etc. and the Zeta is fiiiiiine. i think i’m only ever going to refer to her as ‘the Zeta’ from now on, because that sounds funny. like the code name of some top secret project.
cursive concert tonight! very excited about that. if they play the wussy version of ‘radiator hums’ again i’m going to slap tim kasher like the whiny emo bitch he is though. and after that, perhaps i will steal the Zeta technology from the CIA and sell it to the russians.
[now hearing this: soulwax hang the dj mix]
